Looks very informative, Brett. I'll definitely take some time to go through it and try to gain an understanding of these different technologies. The nice thing about implementing rssCloud on WordPress is that it's dead simple. Install and activate a plugin and you're done. Of course it's early days still and things could change a lot as people come to an understanding of where real-time is going.

Hey Greg! Good coverage of real-time. I look forward all of this stuff in the near future.

These tools will need a strong foundation for developers to build on. In my view, the future won't be achievable without pushing new content to subscribers (aka fat pinging) instead of the ping/poll model. This is why I'm an advocate of PubSubHubbub.

Yes, I believe that at the moment LazyFeed and River2 are the only two feed readers that can receive rssCloud notifications. I expect that there will be more soon and hopefully Google Reader will be among them. In any case, I'm glad you found us.

Turns out Google Reader doesn't have support for Pubsubhubbub or RSSCloud consumption yet, but LazyFeed does and that's where I found your blog. But I did find it 4 hours after you posted this.
